View Full Version : Tips And Tricks To Get The Best Out Of CEP??

I have CEP (cool edit pro)
and I was wondering, since CEP is basically a starter program

is there any tips and tricks anybody knows to get a higher quality sound out of it?

I have a decent mic (tho everyone smokes weed and cigarettes around it so I don't know how long that'll last)
but CEP seems to lower the quality of it.

i mean I know most of the basic shit...

FFT filter....click pop eliminator...all that good shit...
but is there any advanced tricks?

like...for instance....
I have to manually de-amplify all the peaks....because if I de-amplify the whole thing the peaks will go away but the other parts that didn't peak are all quiet and shit...
is there an option to normalize the whole selection??
(...the actual "normalize" button doesn't work...it basically just de-amplifies the whole section to the percentage you want)

any help is appreciated.

one trick is to advance into the modern day of home recording.. i strongly suggest Logic.. there is a lot of support and it is a very simple program to get the hang of.. the facts remain CEP will not give you the quality you deserve . and by decent mic what are you talking.. nine times out of ten your mic doesn't preform as well as it can because of the pre-amp and/or the audio interface.. there are a lot of low budget options that make all the difference but if you really want to boost your quality with a simple USB inteface your best bet is Line 6's TonePort UX2 it has phantom power and an incredible interface behringer also has a lot of low budget equipment that is quality.. what ever you do do not go for the protool digidesign appeal.. yes its great if you own a professional studio otherwise you are paying for shit you can't and won't use..

that is all.. :)

CEP was made for vocal editing for like speakers and dudes like that same with adobe auditon.. thats all the support i see never see any for hiphop based editing... but there are some helpfull tuts on lynda.com but its more about professional techniques than the ones that rappers would use... that site is worth 25 bucks a month to...i think i can find u some torrents for there adobe audition lessons wich last time i use that it was very similar to CEP

CEP is an awesome program and is not just a starter program. You can do a lot of different kinds of editing and import different plugins to help. If you're looking for a standard preset way of mixing you'll never find it. There are preset ways to make you sound ok, but never good enough for someone to say that the mixing sounded good.

I suggest you at least download the Waves Native Gold Bundle as extra plug ins cause it has a pretty good compressor in it.

Also, learn what all the actual editors do like EQ, compression, reverb, etc. and learn how to apply them.

^cool edit pro is a beginner's program.. it is not a professional sound quality standard.. add any other cool word that sounds good to that..

you are very wrong, and you shouldn't mislead people.. vst plug-ins are not everything.. 9/10 of your native instrument and other plug-ins lower qualities down to 96 kbps and 126 kbps.. i know you can get decent quality out of CEP, hell you can get great quality out of it and garage band.. but by no means is it not a beginner's program

you are also wrong here.. assuming you use the same set-up and it is your usual delivery and voice strength.. you absolutely can have all pre-sets loaded and guarantee an outcome that satisfies..

who the fuck are you, go record in your car

Ok, you're misinterpreting what I'm trying to get at. This guy isn't going to find a magic preset online from someone else that will make his shit sound superb. He's going to have to learn on his own how to use all the tools. Even when he figures out what he likes to do and makes presets, he'll still have to make some minor adjustments because every single take is different.

I guess you can consider this a beginners program and you're correct in saying that this is in no way used as any kind of standard

And using some VST plugins can definitely make a huge difference, so saying I shouldn't have suggested using them is retarded. Its all a matter of preference anyway, which is what I was trying to get at.

Thanks for trying to hate though fuck face :)

eh i guess you could say that.. but i just discourage people from using cep and plugins with IT.. not with other programs.. i mean its like picking a pontiac sunfire over a say cadillac sts.. minus the price tags.. i see what your saying.. but i was trying to help him choose the wiser and higher road..
